What actually is sugar alcohol?

What actually IS sugar alcohol? My son got me an Easter bunny that said it was sugar free (or no sugar added, can't remember which) but it still had lots of carbs and said it had sugar alcohol in it. "Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength."

However, I DO have a sweet tooth, and cutting back on that has been the hardest change to make. I don't think I honestly realized how many carbs I was eating in a day until I was forced to pay attention, and it has been a struggle. Being honest with myself about my eating habits by being more aware has been, well, not always pleasant. Here' s a nice sweet treat use it as one of your snacks, or a small dessert:

Smear a multi-grain Club cracker with a bit of peanut butter. Add a few sugar-free semi-sweet chocolate chips (Hershey's are wonderful). It is delicious and really takes a bite out of that sweet craving! Works for me. Now, I'm not diabetic, but if you count the carbs, you should be fine. I've never read the chip label though -- I don't know how they sweeten the chips -- might be sugar alcohol, so another thing diabetics will have to consider. It's a cross between a peanut butter cup and a chocolate chip cookie. Just scrumptious.
