However when I eat very low carb

I have two issues that really get in the way of trying to manage my blood sugar, so I wondered if anyone had ideas. From a very young age, I have had a sweet tooth, big time. At this point, I feel like an addict -- if I don't get something sweet, I just go nuts. I don't keep sweets in my house for that reason -- if I have them, I will eat them!! But not having the stuff in my house means there are so many times I have been pacing the house in the middle of the night because I want something sweet SO badly. I know all the things said about deprivation, but honestly, if I have one bite of anything, I just have to have more and more.

I need to lose a lot of weight too, but I don't think of it like that otherwise I get overwhelmed. Just take it one pound at a time. I understand about cravings too, big time, especially before bed. I would like to suggest somethings that work for me. I can have a tablespoon of peanut butter and lick it off the spoon very slowly, like an ice cream cone. I also drink Glucerna drinks which are made for diabetics and they are very tasty, they definitely satisfy a sweet craving, and my bg stays steady. In fact I have found that if I have one before bed, my morning fasting nbr is low around 100, no higher than 105. I also crave salt and have found that (for me) I can eat a couple cups of popcorn and that's good for chewing. I can also eat a few strawberries. You need to test however to see what you can eat without spiking as everyone is different. So remember YMMV Your Mileage May Vary.

As far as being hungry all the time, if we want to lose weight, that may be inevitable. However when I eat very low carb, I don't get as hungry, since the protein really stays with me. Have you read Gretchen Becker's book the First Year of Type Two Diabetes? It's very well written and will give you some great insight. good luck and try the GLucerna, you may be surprised.
