Protien is very filling and keeps hunger away for longer

I have two issues that really get in the way of trying to manage my blood sugar, so I wondered if anyone had ideas. From a very young age, I have had a sweet tooth, big time. At this point, I feel like an addict -- if I don't get something sweet, I just go nuts. I don't keep sweets in my house for that reason -- if I have them, I will eat them!! But not having the stuff in my house means there are so many times I have been pacing the house in the middle of the night because I want something sweet SO badly. I know all the things said about deprivation, but honestly, if I have one bite of anything, I just have to have more and more.

Also, I feel like I am always hungry. Obviously, a ton of sweets are going to burn through the system quickly, but even when I eat a good, healthy, filling meal, I am hungry again in a couple hours. I have tried eating smaller portions more often, but them I just feel like I am never satisfied at all. And it makes me feel like I am spending every waking minute thinking about food -- not fun for someone who needs to lose a lot of weight!! Ideas-suggestions?

I used to have this problem. Protien is very filling and keeps hunger away for longer. I am vegetarian and do not eat meat but I usually have something like an omelette with loads of spinach for breakfast and don't even think of food for hours afterwards. I know everyone is different but for me upping the protien slightly, really reducing the carbs and eating tons and tons of veggies works. I was diagnosed last year and so far have lost 46 pounds. Good luck - and remember to stick with any changes for a few days - it does get easier.
