It has been a while since I have posted, but I have a few things to add to the discussion on being in Remission. This morning my fasting BS was 95! I am on 22mg of ACTOS daily. My goal has been to get this number at 100 or below and I have achieved it numerous times in the past month or so. I did it by keeping my CARBS low. Yesterday I ate 180 grams of Carbs(mostly fruit and vegetables but a few slices of whole wheat bread), 88 grams of FAT(only 22 grams of saturated), and 270 grams of Protein. That was a total of 2546 calories for the day. I am using the website FITDAY.com to track these totals. It is free website. I weigh 155 lbs (185 lbs. when diagnosed 3 years ago) But the primary reason I can eat so much, is that I am now using strength training (weight lifting) to add muscle to my body. Adding muscle increases insulin sensitivity and it seems to be working. I also want to state that my lipid profile is perfect due to the reduced carbs.

I have a question about diabetes
>When I was first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in November, my blood sugar was way past 200 and my A1C was over 11. On my last doctor visit, a couple of weeks ago my A1C was 5.1 and blood sugar was 97. I lost 60 lbs and I am now at the weight I am supposed to be decreased my metformin from 1600 mgs a day down to 1000 mgs a day and I am getting blood sugar readings every day of anywhere between 76 and 95. My question is, if I continue to do everything right, my blood sugar and A1C should stay good right? I mean they won't go high again unless I start eating things I shouldn't and putting weight back on right? Has anyone here been weened off all medication and are doing good on their own?<
