Dealing with changes

At my last doctor's appt in Feb, she put me on a set pre-prandial dose of Humulog. I argued with her because I was already starting to have fasting lows. She wanted me to do the Humulog prior to eating even if my bs was 50. I reluctantly agreed. That's when I joined this group, because I was so frustrated. I tried the Humulog for a few weeks but started having lows all the time, so I stopped the Humulog. I continued having lows, so I started reducing the Lantus by 2units per week. I continued to have lows, so I made an appt to see the doctor. Then I called and spoke with the nurse and asked her if she could schedule an A1C to be done before the appt. (The reason I wanted the A1C done was because I had been off the Lantus for about 5 weeks during the previous A1C period. I had argued with the doctor that my 8.3 had been higher because of that period of time when I couldn't afford the Lantus. This new A1C would not include that period.) She stated that I wasn't due to be seen until June and the doctor wanted a fasting blood test done. I explained that I couldn't possibly drive that far fasting because of the lows. I also told her that I had stopped the Humulog. She refused to order the A1C. A week later I received a letter from the nurse stating that she had talked to the doctor. Since I refused the blood test and was not following her orders, I should find another doctor. At first, I was ashamed, hurt and then very angry. I had to sit with the problem for a long time, but I finally decided that this was the best thing in the long run. I had a lot of trouble finding someone who was accepting new patients There are no endos in this area at all, and all the internal medicine doctors aren't seeing new patients. This person is actually a FNP, not a doctor, but she's in the same town where my son lives. I thought I could visit his family and they could help me get to the clinic if I had a low. I live in north central Idaho where it is mountainous, the roads can be treacherous, and there is serious doctor shortage. When I was working, I was on a task force to increase services in the area, but I no longer have the energy to work on it and with the changes in the economy and cutbacks that have already taken place, I know it will be a long time before changes take place. Now, that is probably way more information than you wanted to know.
