My relatives in Italy for two weeks and saw firsthand the implementation of their social healthcare system. My grandson, my 84 yr old dad, my 78 year old mom, my sil and nephew all had encounters with health care providers while I was there and no one spent a dime. I agree that, in an ideal world, everyone should have equal access to healthcare, at least basic healthcare. The problem is, who is going to pay for it? Your comment that your relatives never spent a euro is interesting, but the truth is, yes, they did. Or at least someone did. Someone somewhere paid for their "free" healthcare at some point.
Our government is trillions of dollars in debt already, borrowing from Peter to pay Paul every single moment of every day, while the national debt spirals up and up and up and up, and we literally sell our financial souls to foreign lenders who IMO don't have our best interests at heart and never will. So while I agree that something needs to change, again, who in heck is going to pay for it?
And the debt they are piling up is going to have to be paid for by our kids, grandkids, etc. Not a very good legacy, in my opinion Bonnie, in Maine
