Lantus should be adjusted until your fasting reading in the morning is

Hey Yall. I learned something about the Lantus that you guys probably all ready knew. I didn't realize there was a difference between the units and the mL. Well I am happy to say that insurance will pay for it all. I was freaking out because of the way the pen looks and all. Since it said you can't use it for more than 80 units (unless there are 2 shots) I thought it must be 1 unit = 1 mL which is not the case. This is a little confusing but so far so good. BS is still way to high (mid 200's) but that's the way the dr said it would be. He should see improvements this weekend as soon as his body realizes that it's there. I don't know though. Monday I am sending in numbers and he will probably be moved to 15 or 20 units. We have already talked about if he needs to add fast acting and he didn't seem to object. So maybe this will help someone else that is just starting out.

Your Lantus should be adjusted until your fasting reading in the morning is 120 or a little less. Most of the insulins in common use by Type 2s will be 100 units per ml, I believe, There are some 500 unit per milligram versions used for folks with extreme insulin dependence (usually temporary). Conventional wisdom seems to be that it is safe to adjust insulin by 3 units every three days. I have titrated a bit more at times, but risk increases with recklessness,
