Help Youth with Diabetes in Bolivia this September

My name is Danielle Ennis, Volunteer Coordinator at AYUDA, a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower youth to serve as agents of change in diabetes communities abroad. We're currently seeking volunteers to participate in our Bolivia Field Program this September. Please read below with more information about the program. If interested in applying, please contact me at ennisd@ayudainc.net

Bolivia Field Program: September 14 - September 30, 2009

Volunteer in Bolivia with children and youths with type 1 diabetes. Help create and administer leadership training and youth empowerment programs together with the AYUDA team of diverse, driven, and creative volunteers. Participate in grassroots outreach in severely under-resourced communities and gain fieldwork experience in the areas of international health, youth empowerment, Spanish, education, Latin American development.

Our volunteers work with Bolivian youths living with diabetes with various levels of diabetes education. Many come from extremely poor communities and have few medical resources. It is typical to find kids without the necessary resources to afford insulin, eat regularly or receive adequate medical attention. Thus, all volunteers must be prepared for the often trying conditions in which AYUDA operates. Volunteers will collaborate with the National Network of Diabetic Youth and partnering Bolivian Foundations to:
* Plan January's diabetes camps in La Paz and Santa Cruz
* Train youth leaders to carry out leadership and empowerment programs
* Conduct local outreach projects for child and family diabetes education
