Diabetes: Diabetic nephropathy

I am going to a Kidney Dr next month Dont know what to expect I do have protein in my urine I quess the right amount is around 150 and mine is in the 300 range I dont know what to do about changing this Any help will be appreciated I quess I will find out next month how bad my kidneys are where I am at with this. I'm not sure if there's a right amount of protein in the urine-- I've been led to understand that the right amount is as close to zero as possible.

My docs explained to me that the important lab result number to check is the microalbumin- creatinine ratio, which is supposed to be less than 30. My lab results sheet says a value from 30-300 is "suggestive of incipient diabetic nephropahty, whereas a ration >300 is suggestive of overt diabetic nephropathy. "

The renal doc will get on your case about tight glucose control and tight blood pressure control, and he'll scrupulously go over your medications with you. Nephrologists are considered blood pressure control specialists, so he'll have a good handle on what meds you should be on, if any, for that.
