Brands of liquid food supplements

This info from the Alabama cooperative extension folks:

At any age, the best way to get the nutrients you need is by eating a balanced diet. But, sometimes people just can't get enough of the right foods. For example, some older people find themselves losing weight because of appetite loss or as a side effect of certain medicines. One way to improve your diet is by using a liquid food supplement such as Carnation Instant Breakfast, Ensure or Sustacal to provide some extra calories, vitamins and minerals.

Some people use these supplemental food products every day; others use them only when it is difficult to get a regular meal. You can usually find these products in drugstores and large grocery stores. Some types are meant to be replacements for complete, balanced meals. Others have extra protein, fiber or other nutrients to be used for specific medical conditions. Liquid food supplements are available in several flavors.

If you use these products, check to see if your medical insurance will help cover the cost. Also, remember to check with your doctor or dietician to make sure you choose the supplement best for you.
