>After 1st talking with a diabetes dr right after my kidney transplant I have felt like I am in some kind of never never land. I have been delegated to a nurse practitioner and except for information I get on this site and personal research I would have no information on what is going on with me So all of you who provide information are a big help to me and others I am sure.<
I'm glad you found us, Jill, and that we've been able to help. Who's delegated you to an NP for your care? Does the NP work with the diabetes specialist? Is she also a CDE (certified diabetes educator)? Many NPs are. If so, she's probably a really good resource for you, maybe better than the doctor would be in some ways.
There's a fabulous inexpensive book you can buy (or maybe find in the library) called Diabetes for Dummies, written by a diabetes doc especially for lay people. I found it very smartly written, not dumbed down at all, but neither was it written in lofty medicalese that a layman couldn't understand. If you want to or need to (or both) understand what's happening on your insides as a diabetic, that book will explain it, as well as how to make sure you're getting good self care and medical care. There's also an accompanying cookbook that's excellent-- not just recipes, but all kinds of info about making good food choices.
