Have you had an A1c yet?

Quick introduction. I'm a middle-aged Mom whose parents are both type II. I have impaired glucose metabolism, am overweight, and am headed for Type II myself. I'd like to start monitoring my BG levels. Since I'm not diagnosed, everything will be out of my pocket, even though I have extended medical (SunLife).

Have you had an A1c yet? I would ask the doc for one because you can get diagnosed that way. I never had a number higher than 6, yet I still get everything covered by insurance. Most websites can give you a free meter, you don't really have to put in all the exact info, it's enough to tell them you are prediabetic. It worked for me. I got a free meter from Dlife.com and another one from insurance later. I used to buy my strips from ebay for very good prices. I also found that staying on a low carb diet keeps my numbers in a good healthy range. Also helped me lose weight. I've come to think of bread as the devil (just me) and have found that I even have a certain intolerance to things like oatmeal, keep in touch and good luck.
