Botox jabs ease diabetic pain

Botox could be a new treatment for a common symptom of diabetes. A new study has shown that the toxin can ease the chronic foot pain caused by the disease. Foot pain occurs as a result of damage to nerves, especially those in the lower legs and feet. This pain often doesn't respond to standard painkillers. In a study published in the journal Neurology, Taiwanese doctors tested Botox on 18 patients. Half the diabetic patients had an injection of Botox in each foot; the rest were given a saltwater solution injection. At the start of the study, the average pain score on a scale of 0 to 10 was 6.36. After the Botox therapy, patients reported a drop of 2.53 in their pain scores.
