Any body can give an idea about how can i count my daily carb. intake? i am 230 pounds,185 cm tall.i am 43 type 2 ,on metformin 500 mg twice daily. Pretty much it's based on what calorie level you're supposed to be eating (which depends on your age, your gender, your activity level, whether or not you need to lose or gain weight). The traditional ADA diet is 60% carbs, but a lot of diabetics find they don't do that well on so many. You could try a 40% level.... but you need input from your doctor and/or a dietician who knows something about diabetes (one who's also a certified diabetes educator would be the way to go) and who knows something about you.
So since one gram of carb accounts for approximately 4 calories, you have to do the math. Take your total daily calories, find 40 or 50 or 60% (whatever you decide) of that for the total calories from carbs, and divide that number by 4. That should give you the number of daily carb grams. Now divvy those up between 3 meals and 1 or 2 daily snacks. Get a consult with a CDE/nutritionist. The math will drive you wild.
