Diabetes: Diabetics should always carry their meter and glucose tabs with them

I need to point out to Bill here that during the episode of "low,"Margo, your BG of 5.1 (90) was clearly NOT in a hypo. A hypo is considered anything under 65. Although this FELT like a hypo, it was not. The reason for this is that if a diabetic's body is used to high BGs (above 180) it will still FEEL like a hypo. And the only way to get past this, on the way to more normal BGs, is to let it happen. If you eat something carby here, that's just going to make that condition continue. OTOH, if you can wait it out, it will become less severe over time and pretty soon 90 will be a goal to aim for. Actually, 90 is a Very Nice number.

Also, it's much better to use glucose tabs rather than sugar or juice or candy, because glucose tabs raise BGs a specific set amount - usually about 10 points per tab, although YMMV. When one feels low, one should test immediately then take the appropriate number of glucose tabs to bring BGs up to a non-hypo number. Otherwise one risks the "merry-go-round" effect, where BG goes way high then way low again. For some type 2s this can continue for more than 24 hours and can really mess up your readings. Diabetics should always carry their meter and glucose tabs with them.
