I quite often find that there are days when I can't get my numbers up and have many episodes of what you experienced. The first really noticeable one happened at work, where I was sweaty, shaky and even my face was numb. I felt awful! I went to the lunch rum where a long-time T1 said take my blood glucose (BG= 5.1 (90)) and he started feeding me sugar. I just took a bit of juice and took it again after 10 mins - still 5.1, so he insisted that I eat some sugar - and still it didn't move. After about 20 mins the shakes stopped and the face came back, so I went back to work. (I had meanwhile eaten some cheese and an egg). My bg stayed normal to low all day. Since then I have noticed this many times - there are days when I can eat anything and still feel miserable and my values do not rise. For me it has rarely been that bad, but I can tell it is in that place because my insides feel "cold" which is not a temperature feeling but an esthetic thing. I really can't explain it, but it is the same way I feel with a bad headache. I want to and need to eat - and eventually I will start to feel better. It may happen just after I have eaten, so all I can attributive it to is the very unscientific theory that I have depleted all my residual glucose stores - or maybe my dumping liver is asleep. So I eat - within reason - it is usually some protein and either chocolate (a food group if you ask me), or fruit if there is some in the house. Sometimes the best thing is a mess of scrambled eggs or a steak.
Thank you for all the responses to this - it reminded me of what may be causing my higher than usual daily values. I usually run in the 4's (40-80) in the day time especially if I am working and for the last 2 weeks I have been in the 5's - still good but not my "normal". Someone wrote about their higher than normals as she recovered from a tooth ache - and light flash here - I said my ankle! 3 weeks ago I went for a walk down the driveway to get the paper. And I was admittedly walking "drunk" - I find that happens sometimes after meals - usually when I am too hungry and I don't know why - anyway, I needed to get the paper and mail before it was dark. As I was going there I rolled my ankle for no reason what-so-ever, and thought to myself "I am going to wish I had not done that". Stumbled to the mailbox and home and did the usual RICE bit, as I had broken this ankle 3 years ago - I fell off the doorstep carrying a flat of geraniums - didn't break any geraniums! Fractured the ankle!
Back to this twist - I strapped it and ignored it and then a week later when I went for a check-up, I mentioned that my ankle still seemed very sore and for a long time for a sprain (which I assumed it was, as I really hadn't wanted to throw-up and that was the main thing about the last time). He said it was most likely a sprain but because of the extreme tenderness over the bone, he suggested physio after I had an x-ray. It was not considered an emergency, so he would call after the radiologist read the film. He called on Monday to say it was a fracture, but not displaced - just take 2 weeks and do nothing - as though that is likely to happen. If not, then strap it or tape it and do as little as possible (I walk about 14 km a day on concrete and pavement in steel toed boots!.) I got a small brace and have it strapped and it felt much better yesterday, but I would say the whole thing is affecting my bg values, so thanks for the reminder.
By the way my A1C was 5.2 which is my 2nd lowest - I actually hit 4.2 - so I know I can do that. However my cholesterol is up and he wants to put me back on Crestor, but that is another story. Margo T2, Metformin and Avandia, and too many other pills to modify other things.
