For a while, my blood sugars were definitely out of control. If I ate the wrong foods, my BS could rise beyond 200, occasionally to 250. I thought about it and this is what I came up with:
First, I decided to *aim* for about 2400 calories, given that I'm 5'5" and weigh 290 pounds. Next, I aimed for about 800 or so calories for one meal and for the 2nd and 3rd meals. I'm gentle with myself if I'm beyond 800 calories at a meal. At the end of the day, if I'm still hungry, I'll eat low carb foods primarily (but not totally) until I'm just a *little* hungry. Eventually, some of the food I ate gets digested and my hunger goes away. As it goes away, temporarily my blood sugar can rise to 198. However, after I take my BS pills, my blood sugar in a couple of hours (with no extra food taken in) goes down to about 128--which it just has not done in recent times.
I have no idea if this method will work for others. Naturally, if you wish to try it, you'd want to aim for a different amount of calories than mine, depending on your height and weight. Assume that this method won't work for diabetes II, though it might! The calories can be intuitively derived (that's what I do), not set in a calorie book. Given the calories you aim for, and any additional needed at the end of the day, you want a *very small* level of hunger, enough to be a bit uncomfortable but nothing you can't accept and not feel compelled to act upon. I'd appreciate it if anyone who tries this would please let me know what happens!
