Diabetes: Hippocratic Oath

>It would be nice if the oath doctors take would contain the phrase not to put human life and patient health second to making money.<

Most doctors are now paid employees of hospitals and medical businesses that pay them salaries. Not only that, the insurance companies punish them for providing good care. How many totally independent medical doctors do you see today? If they are independent, they often don't take insurance.

>There is a paragraph of the original oath that comes pretty close...<

"In every house where I come I will enter only for the good of my patients, keeping myself far from all intentional ill-doing and all seduction... " My PCP is the best. I have to drive a long way to see him, but he's a kind, compassionate, caring guy who manages to practice on his own & takes insurance. His office staff are all gems. The nurses at the hospital worship the ground he walks on. He volunteers at the local hospice and he makes extra money to support himself by moonlighting at the hospital from time to time. He's a DO who is an internist, neurologist and a chiropractor (he says he has a hard time making up his mind about what he wants to do, so he does it all). He has read the Bernstein book and has a copy in his lobby. If I ever move too far away I'll be forced to create the first functional stark trek transporter to get to his office.
