I wonder if you could go into a little more detail about your renal failure. In particular, what were the symptoms, how long did it go on, and what was the treatment?I ask because yesterday my doctor told me I had blood and also ketones in my urine. He didn't seem too concerned about it but I certainly am. In fact, I'm on the verge of panic! I always thought (out of my vast storehouse of ignorance) that if you had renal failure you were done for.Can anybody offer any reassurance? >
Where is the blood coming from? What did your doc say about that, and did he order tests to find out? I've had urinary bleeding (even at times passing gross disgusting clots) from bladder infections in the past. Of course the bleeding can come from "higher up", I suppose.
Ketones in the urine mean that your body is burning fat for energy instead of using the glucose from what you eat. Have your blood sugars been running very high? Without enough insulin on board, your body's cells have no choice but to turn to your fat reserves when they can't use the circulating glucose. Those who eat a strict no-carb or very low calorie (less than 600-800 calories a day) diet also get into ketoacidosis and deliberately stay there, which I've always heard is not too good for ya, to say the least.
What does your doc say is going on? I'd want answers, and I'd want them post haste and as clearly stated as possible, if I were you. Let us know how you make out, okay?
