My name is Malissa, I live in Western Colorado, and I have been diabetic since October 08. I was put on Prednisone for a lung condition (undiagnosed as yet) and the Pred gifted me with diabetes. It's possible the diabetes is temporary, if I can ever get off of the prednisone. I got a stomach virus (or maybe a flare-up of IBS--worst ever). Thought I was going to die. My whole body felt just wrong. I haven't been able to wirk since then, so I have missed a lot of the contagious stuff, and this is the first time I have been sick since October. 30 hours after the digestive stuff went away, I was still unable to walk more than a few feet, due to weakness, Here's the question: Does diabetes make you sicker, when you catch a virus? The hospital just handed me the insulin and sent me home. I don't have anyone else to learn from.
Hi im denise ive had diabetes for 11 yeras already and what i could tellyou is that when u get a virus u need to be real carefull try staying away from the hospital cuse viruses get in easier il give u an example i had nemonia like four years ago and it got worst it turned into t.b its an infection that gets in your lungs and damages them my sugars were out of control so that made everything worse like to the point that i had to get in the ventelator to breath i couldnt breath on my own i started getting weakness in my legs cuse i could walk i had to bein bed so i had to learn how to walk again it got bad so yes a little virus could get outof control if u dont take care of it so pleasedo everything they tell u and take care of ur sugars
