Diabetes: A good starting point is to get one of the low sample

I hate finger sticks as well. A good starting point is to get one of the low sample volume meters that allow testing on the forearm. I am not crazy about that either, but it is generally painless and works quite well. I use the Freestyle meter, but there are a few others that allow the arm testing.

Be thankful you are not being tested in the hospital. They finger stick because the meters they use require a good sized drop of blood. I would tell the nurses aides assigned to the task several times a day, you don't need to press hard on the spring loaded lancet because my fingers bleed freely. Almost all of them seemed to delight in pressing like hell with the lancet, which greatly increases the pain.
